Motown Memories with Steve Weaver

Motown. The first record I bought at the ripe old age of nine was ‘Where Did Our Love Go?’. I joined The Supremes fan club in the 60s and eventually ran it. I contributed to the late Mary Wilson’s best-selling book after she left The Supremes in 1977 and when asked by group members Scherrie Payne, Lynda Laurence and Jean Terrell to join them as their road manager back in 1988 I grabbed the opportunity with both hands. It changed my life completely. Twelve of the best and busiest years of my life – and it would have continued had I not broken my neck in a freak accident in 2001. I am still very good friends with the ladies who affectionately nick-named me ‘Stevie Weavie’ and it stuck.

Travelling the world first class and meeting more big names in show business than should be legally allowed – Diana Ross, James Brown, Tom Jones, Sister Sledge, Three Degrees, Four Tops, Temptations, Nile Rogers/Chic, Martha & The Vandellas, Thelma Houston, Freda Payne and many, many more. I honed my presenter skills through hospital radio, progressing to resident club DJ then working freelance presenting for BBC radio – which I switched to whenever the ladies wanted to take time off the road.

Joining the Radio Caroline Flashback team is truly a dream come true. I listen to Flashback daily (prefer radio to TV) because the distinctive lack of a rigid playlist means I’m constantly saying WOW – I haven’t heard this one for years and the variety of shows is amazing.

I hope you’ll enjoy what I have in store for you. Motown’s catalogue of masters is in excess of 14 thousand recordings so I promise that you won’t be hearing the same old song – unless it’s by the Four Tops!
