THE GORDON BATHGATE SHOW
WITH GORDON BATHGATE
My fascination with radio began at an early age. I was enchanted by the large wooden radiogram in the corner of the lounge and would tune around until I heard a voice or piece of music. It didn’t matter what it was. I’d just sit and listen to the ghostly sounds from the ether.
I was a keen fan of pirate stations like Radio Caroline, Radio Scotland and Radio North Sea International. Over the years I gradually became an Offshore Radio enthusiast and started to collect hundreds of tapes. I was very interested in the voices behind the microphone and always thought that would be a brilliant job.
In 1980 I helped to establish Grampian Hospital Radio. Over the next 10 years I presented every type of show under the sun to gain valuable broadcasting experience. I also held the post of Vice Chairman and Programme Controller where I was partly responsible for the day-to-day running of the station.
Since then I’ve worked for various stations across Europe, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, including DLR 106, Radio Seagull, NECR and Waves Radio. I’m really happy to be associated with Caroline Flashback and look forward to playing the classic tunes we all love.
